The seasons at a glance

Krabi has two seasons. Here is what to expect from each, and which weeks tend to be the most reliable.

Nov to Apr

Peak Season

The dry season. Calm seas, clear water and sunny days. Best visibility for snorkeling, up to 20 m. Most popular, so book ahead.

Dec to Jan

Best Overall

The peak of peak season. Excellent conditions, lively crowds and the most reliable calm water. Book well in advance.

May to Oct

Wet Season

The southwest monsoon. Seas can be rough and some days are cancelled. Tours still run, but check conditions on the day. Lower prices.

If you came to snorkel

December through March gives you the clearest water and the best marine-life visibility.

If you came for bioluminescence

The summer months offer the strongest plankton glow, though night tours are weather dependent.

Free cancellation or rebooking

If weather forces us to cancel a tour, you can rebook for another day or get a full refund. There is no risk to booking early.

Best Time to Visit Koh Hong Krabi

Questions People Ask

Can you visit Koh Hong in May, June or July?
Yes, tours run year-round, but the southwest monsoon runs from May through October. Seas can be choppy and some days get cancelled. If you're visiting in these months, book with free cancellation (which we offer) and stay flexible on dates. The upside is lower prices, fewer tourists and dramatic skies for photography.
Is it worth going during the wet season?
For some people, yes. The island is at its least crowded, prices are lower and the vegetation is more vivid. The risk is losing a day to bad weather, which is why free cancellation matters. If you have multiple days in Krabi and flexibility, you'll likely be fine. We'll always tell you honestly what the conditions look like for your date.
What are the water temperatures at Koh Hong?
The Andaman Sea around Krabi stays warm year-round, typically between 27°C and 30°C. Even in the cooler dry season months of December and January, the water never feels cold. A rash guard is useful for sun protection rather than warmth.
Which months have the best visibility for snorkeling?
December through March gives the clearest water, sometimes exceeding 20 metres of visibility. Read more on our snorkeling guide. April and November are also excellent. From May onwards, plankton blooms and monsoon sediment reduce visibility. The snorkeling is still enjoyable but you won't see as far.
When is Koh Hong least busy?
May through October during the wet season. Within the dry season, early January and late March tend to be quieter than the Christmas and Chinese New Year peaks. Early morning departures are always noticeably quieter than afternoon arrivals, regardless of season.
